Jeffrey Sweeney Joins the Board of Directors of MIRIS Following €10MM Bridge Financing

San Francisco-based private financial group supports the rise of innovative Norwegian-based energy-efficient and sustainable real estate development company.

San Francisco, California, USA, November 21, 2019 -- Jeffrey Sweeney, Chairman and CEO at US Capital Global has joined the Board of Directors of MIRIS AS, a technology-driven real estate development firm and portfolio advisory company of US Capital Global. This follows a €10 million bridge facility to the company, ahead of a €100 million growth equity program.

MIRIS has five construction projects, including Svart Hotel and the Bryne Technology Center. Svart, the world’s first energy-positive hotel in the Arctic Circle, has an annual energy consumption 85% lower than that of other modern hotels, and it harvests enough solar energy to cover both the hotel operations and the energy needed to construct the building. Meanwhile, the Bryne Technology Center will be the first in Norway to be heated with energy from a local data center. Headquartered in San Francisco, US Capital Global has provided asset management and corporate financial services for over twenty years, focusing on lower middle market financing and investment banking. Led by lifelong entrepreneur Jeffrey Sweeney, US Capital Global has extensive experience in leading firms with a forward-thinking approach in both FinTech and impact investment development.

Jan Gunnar Mathisen, CEO and founder of MIRIS, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Jeffrey Sweeney to the Board of Directors of MIRIS. Our aim is to collaborate with industry-leading professionals who have a similar ethos towards nature preservation and innovation to ours, and we believe US Capital Global, with its focus on innovation and on social and environmental impact investment, is a perfect fit for our company.”

“I am honored to be joining the Board of Directors of MIRIS and to have received my Norwegian ID card,” said Jeffrey Sweeney, Chairman and CEO at US Capital Global. “We are now working on putting in place a convertible note and senior lending facility to support MIRIS’s sustainable, hyper-low carbon footprint projects, as well as to further develop its software platform for measuring the true carbon cost of development projects, both during the construction phase and post-construction. I look forward to collaborating with Jan and supporting the exciting projects MIRIS has under way.”

Be Smart and Safe if you Hang your Own Christmas Lights: Experts from Christmas Lights by Go-Forth Offer Safety Checklist

Everyone loves gazing at Christmas Lights this time of year. And for many families, the hanging of the lights is a cherished tradition. But hanging them can be frustrating and even dangerous if the right precautions aren’t taken.

High Point, NC, United States., November 19, 2019 -- Everyone loves gazing at Christmas Lights this time of year. And for many families, the hanging of the lights is a cherished tradition. But hanging them can be frustrating and even dangerous if the right precautions aren’t taken. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are thousands of injuries every year resulting from holiday decorating.

The Christmas Light Installation Experts at Christmas Lights by Go-Forth have provided some tips for staying safe when installing Christmas lights:

Always take the time to look for and read all safety warnings and installation instructions. Not only will this help prevent injury, but it will also educate on how many strands can be connected together. No one wants to get too far along in the decorating process to only have to start over!

Be sure to use ladders properly. Ensure both feet are on level ground and always have a spotter (second person on the ground) hold the bottom securely. Never use a ladder alone. Be sure that the ladder can hold both the person's weight and the weight of the decorations being carried.

If possible, use LED bulbs - they are much cooler than incandescent bulbs (and they use less energy - saving money as well!)

Fasten lights securely to avoid them being damaged by the wind or potentially falling on property below. They should not be dangling free for children to grab.

Avoid any roof work during snow, ice or rain.

Make sure to have the appropriate electrical supply needed for the project. A qualified electrician can assist.

Ben Keifer, manager of the Christmas Lights division at Go-Forth, says, “As a professional Christmas Lights installation company, our company has made large financial investments in safety equipment, ladders, lighting products and training courses to ensure the team has all the tools they need to do the best job, in the safest way. Individuals who hang lights should make this same investment in safety. The most beautiful light display in the world isn’t worth a single injury.”

New Book Published About Disrupting the SAMR Education Technology Model

Education Technology author and consultant publishes new book on Tier 4 curriculum (T4c) as a new standard for wide-scale development of K12 curriculum.

Orange, California, United States., November 11, 2019 -- The SAMR model is an educational taxonomy that describes a method for incrementally improving K-12 curriculum using technology. The goal of the SAMR model is to help schools improve student learning by taking advantage of capabilities of technology in the classroom, such as WIFI, special software and student devices such as tables and laptop computers. Devised by Dr. Ruben Puentadura, the model stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition as a process for increasing technology integration into curriculum.

In his sixth education technology book, “From Dysfunction to Innovation in Technology:Overcoming Critical Infrastructure and Organizational Dynamics in Education” Darryl Vidal details how schools and districts can skip over the lower levels of the SAMR model and start large-scale development of technology-enabled curriculum at the top layer of the SAMR model (Redefinition) – a process Vidal has designated Tier 4 Curriculum – or T4c.

By disrupting the model defined by SAMR, Dysfunction defines the process, staffing and standards a school or district needs to be able to develop T4c on a district-wide scale. Vidal states, “Many teachers and administrators are familiar with the SAMR model but have no means or methods to aid their teachers in implementing the model. Teachers are left to their own devices to achieve the potential capabilities of educational technology systems. This limited process rarely achieves the goal of providing new curriculum that maximizes technologies such as learning management systems, content development, and collaboration tools to a whole school district. The curriculum development methodology described in Dysfunction provides a framework for integrating technology into the curriculum called the 6-C development process: Curriculum, (Common) Core, Cognition, Content, Critical Thinking and Collaboration.

Dysfunction details a plan for not only developing T4c using the 6-C methodology, but also defines the resources, skillsets, and professional development required to develop, implement and continuously improve on the curriculum developed through this process.

Bill Olien, Deputy Superintendent of Murrieta Valley Unified School District said of the new process, “Darryl’s new book is one to read and ponder. The thesis is that now is the time to have educational technology make a real difference. Too long we have seen any form of technology used in a classroom and we believe teaching and learning have improved just because we have used technology. We have had enough talk about Chromebooks, Google Docs, bits, fiber, 1:1 and VM Ware. It is time to make some substantial change in teaching and learning and not just use technology. Too often we assume teaching and learning has changed when all we have done is exchange a cheap pencil for expensive technology. We continue to play in the sandbox when we should be reaching for the stars. Darryl’s book provides a pathway for school districts to take this job seriously.”

Former School Superintendent and Education Consultant, Jeffrey Felix stated, “Once again, Darryl uses his gift of “outsight” to view educational issues in a completely unique way. Darryl has the ability to be aware of outside forces that manipulate the time and energy of all educators and uses this awareness to help us understand with an openness that is simply refreshing. Innovation requires outsight and Darryl has piqued the interest of educators with a new instructional delivery method that simplifies the learning process for students who demand personalization.”

From Dysfunction to Innovation in Technology is scheduled for release in March 2020 and is available for pre-order on Amazon.

About Darryl Vidal:
Darryl Vidal has been consulting for schools implementing technology for over 20 years. His projects include district-wide implementations of VoIP, Wireless, Data Center Virtualization, and Video Security. His primary instructional focus for over 15 years has been the ever evolving technology classroom. Mr. Vidal has developed the formal strategic planning and project management methodology known as MapIT. Darryl Vidal also provides program and project management as well as technical writing, Design Guide and Guide Specification development.
New Book Seeks to Change Education Technology Curriculum Development Framework Nationwide

Southern California-based Ed Tech author and consultant publishes new book on Tier 4 Curriculum to elevate technology enabled lesson plans for K-12 schools.

Orange, California, United States., November 8, 2019 -- “What does all that mean?” For background, the SAMR model is an educational taxonomy that prescribes a method for incrementally evolving curriculum through technology enablement. Popularized by Dr. Ruben Puentadura, the model stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition as increasingly higher levels of technology integration into curriculum.

In his latest book, “From Dysfunction to Innovation in Technology” Vidal prescribes a formula schools and districts can follow to skip over the lower levels of the SAMR model and begin large-scale development of technology-enabled curriculum at the top level of the SAMR model (Redefinition) – a methodology Vidal has labeled Tier 4 Curriculum – or T4c.

By disrupting the sequential ascent up the model defined by SAMR, Dysfunction first defines the requisite infrastructure, resources and processes a school or district needs to be able to develop T4c on a district-wide scale. The book begins by detailing and defining strategies for technology innovation from both the Instructional and Technology sides of the educational organization.

Vidal states, “a school cannot implement technology-enabled curriculum without first having necessary infrastructure in place, but also the systems and organizational processes to manage and sustain the infrastructure lifecycle.

Once a school has the infrastructure and organizational structure necessary, only then can a school district begin mass production and rapid deployment of T4c.

Teachers must know what technology will be available in their classrooms, and what devices the students will have access to when lesson planning, and how best to deliver the lesson.

The curriculum development methodology described in Dysfunction provides a framework for integrating technology into the lesson to encompass cognitive factors, context, critical thinking skills and collaboration. A framework called the 6-C development process.

Dysfunction lays out the path for not only developing T4c using the 6 C methodology, but also defines the resources, skillsets, and professional development required to develop, implement and continuously improve on the curriculum developed through this process.

Jaime Casap, Google’s Global Education Evangelist and nationally renown Education advocate states, “For any school or district leader that really wants to transform their educational system, From Dysfunction to Innovation in Technology is a must read. It has the value proposition needed to create the momentum but more importantly, the book is full of step-by-step guides and implementation strategies that move transformation from theory to real practice!"

Superintendent of Cajon Valley Unified School District, Dr. David Miyashiro, a nationally recognized educator and TED talk personality says, “Darryl Vidal gives us a true roadmap inclusive of both the critical infrastructure and also the organizational dynamics of transitioning school districts to the digital age. Managing district change at this scale requires all departments and stakeholders to find common ground and common language for moving the work forward. Darryl also tackles the most important factors in Ed Tech Innovations as they relate to teaching and learning. Curriculum development and the end users involved get a front seat in this thoughtful work. This book is a must have for district leaders in any phase of technology integration.”
