An eclectic collection of art by Northwest artists is coming to auction on Thursday, August 1st, 2019 at McLaren Auction Services. With over fifty paintings and nearly 20 listed artists represented, this collection includes a piece which will appeal to any collector.

Aurora, OR, July 20, 2019 -- An auction event featuring Northwest art will be presented by McLaren Auction Services. The auction will be hosted in the gallery of the historic Aurora Colony Auction House located in the heart of Aurora, Oregon at 21507 Highway 99E NE. The live auction begins at 6:30 p.m. PST on Thursday, August 1st. For those wishing to preview the collection, McLaren Auction Services will host a live viewing for the event on Wednesday, July 31st from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. as well as at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday until the bidding begins. The sale features several ways to participate including live, internet bidding, phone and absentee bidding.

The collection includes Northwest Impressionism, landscapes, abstract, and some interesting aspects of the still life. Paintings span in age from the early 1900s to Mid-Century and exemplify a variety of subjects. The artists featured include Clyde Leon Keller, Charles C McKim, Eliza Barchus, Cyrus Fulton, David McCosh, Myra Higgins, Albert Runquist, Nellie Star, Josephine Jayne Hayne and many more.

Charles C McKim’s gorgeous seascape is a wonderful painting representing the Northwest. McKim (Maine, Oregon 1862-1939) was an accomplished plein air impressionist who lived on both coasts and was known for painting both Pacific and Atlantic coastal scenes. This seascape is one of his first paintings of the Pacific coast after relocating to Portland, Oregon in 1911 and opening a gallery there. Charles spent the last 30 years of his career in Oregon, where he is best known.

One of the more intriguing pieces is an early Clyde Leon Keller (Oregon, 1872-1972) dated 1918 and titled verso “Landscape – Clackamas River”. A prolific artist who produced over 4,500 paintings in his lifetime, Keller won several prizes in his career and counted presidents Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt among his prestigious clients.  This wonderful example of Northwest Impressionism depicts the lovely Clackamas River and at a diminutive 8-1/2” tall x 10-3/4” wide, it will easily grace the walls of any gallery.

For those who prefer a more abstract form of art, there are two abstract gouaches by David McCosh from the latter part of his career. McCosh (Iowa, Oregon 1903-1981) both painted and taught at several universities including Davenport School of Art, Chicago's Art Institute, and the University of Oregon where he finished his career. His art was widely exhibited all over the country including The Art Institute of Chicago, Whitney Museum, Walker Gallery NYC, The Seattle Art Museum, 1939 New York World’s Fair, Golden Gate Museum, Portland Art Museum and many more.  The paintings included in this auction are titled “San Miguel de Allende” and “Donkey and Cactus” and appear to be influenced by his time spent in Mexico and New Mexico.

In addition to the preeminent collection of Northwest art, many other pieces of art and antiques will be featured.  Items of note include four circa 1940s authenticated Walt Disney pencil drawings with Mickey Mouse and Bambi, Oscar Bach console set, Erte “Triumph” bronze sculpture, antique furniture including a Simon Loscertales Bona desk, Persian rugs, Asian antiquities, Parabelle Glass artist proof paperweights, disc music boxes and much more.

For those unable to attend the event, internet bidding will be available through McLaren Auction Services bidding platform. Phone bids and absentee bids will also be accepted. Visit the McLaren Auction Services website for more information at www.mclarenauction.com.
