Hello Autumn: Colder Weather Causes Critters to Find Refuge
Pest control diligence as the colder months approach is vital. As Autumn arrives and the weather gets colder, pests and rodents look to the indoors to find refuge from the elements. Pests such as spiders, cockroaches and mice can wreak havoc in a household if they’re not taken care of.
Greensboro, NC, United States., September 24, 2019 -- As Autumn arrives and the weather gets colder, pests and rodents look to the indoors to find refuge from the elements. Pests such as spiders, cockroaches and mice can wreak havoc in a household if they’re not taken care of.
The National Pest Management Association encourages homeowners to schedule appointments with their local pest control companies to take precautions leading into the fall and winter months. Taking the time out of the day early enough can prevent problems in the long run.
“There are quite a few tips that homeowners can take as we move into Fall,” said Chase Hazelwood, owner of Go-Forth Pest Control. “One of the most important things to do is to inspect the outside of the home for entry points. Fixing holes, broken window and door screens and replacing ill-fitting vents before it gets too cold outside can prevent a lot of problems.”
Cleaning leaves and debris from the yard, gutters and areas around the foundation of a house can also discourage pests such as spiders and ants from breeding on the property. It’s important to also keep spaces like basements and attics dry and well ventilated. Firewood should never be stacked indoors or directly against the home due to possible beetle or termite infestations in the firewood.
“A lot of people assume pest control isn’t needed during the winter and that is naive. There are many specific pests that are a problem during colder months. Failing to take preventative steps to keep these pests away and out of the home can lead to a big headache and heavy infestations, “ says Hazelwood.
